Welcome
Hello Friends.
Thanks for tuning in to Twelve Minute Health Bits. This is your host, Christen Hull, providing health and wellness support for the 21st century. We will be talking about using simple methods from today and centuries ago to keep our bodies healthy. Our goal is to daily stay “Above the Wellness Line.” In this podcast I will be giving you tips and tricks on how to daily make small changes to your life in order to keep your body well.
Episode 14 - Calming Big Emotions
Let’s be perfectly honest my friends. This year has been a whirlwind. I know I have gone up and down and all around, wondering what in the world is going on and trying to figure out how to be a blessing to others, while still being strong when things get tough. I am grateful for God’s Word, the truth to always come back to when I am questioning what is going on yet again. I am also grateful for God’s gift of plants to continue to use to help support emotions.
Hope Essential Oil Blend
Do you have hope essential oil? If you do, please grab it, put a couple drops on the palm of your hand, rub your fingertip in it, then rub those fingertips on both of your earlobes. Take the extra from your palm and place your palm over your heart and hold your hand there for a couple of long, slow deep breaths. If you do not have hope, use frankincense and do the exact same process. Hope essential oil is an amazing blend that was formulated with Melissa, juniper, myrrh, and spruce in a base of almond oil.
Melissa Essential Oil
If you have not yet heard of Melissa essential oil, I highly recommend you go and check it out. Many have used Melissa to find relief from severe racing thoughts. Those times when your brain just does not want to shut off. To use this oil for racing thoughts you can drop it in your diffuser jewelry; rub it on your wrists, the bottoms of your feet, or your spine. You can also put a couple drops in your palms, rub your palms together, and breathe deeply three to four times (or more). It can help calm the mind, bring your brain into focus, and ease any built up emotional agitation.
My husband started using Melissa essential oil regularly to help him when he is extra stressed at work. He just takes a couple of drops and puts it in his beard. He calls his beard his personal diffuser. He says the oil helps to take the edge off of things when he cannot seem to calm his mind.
Juniper Essential Oil
Also in hope essential oil blend is juniper. Juniper has an amazing smell that can evoke feelings of confidence, energy, health, love, and peace. It can also help people out of periods of intense sadness. Juniper is known to be a great support for the circulatory system and kidneys (Young & Lawrence, 2003, p. 114).
A while back I was struggling with losing feeling in my right foot in my two smallest toes. Someone mentioned to me that I should put a drop of juniper at that location as soon as I felt the toes become numb and tingle. I was curious if it would do anything, so the next time my toes were numb, I grabbed my juniper, dropped the oil directly on my toes (juniper is very gentle so using without a carrier oil is not a huge issue), and within a second the toes had feeling again. It amazed me how quickly and well juniper worked. This has nothing to do with emotions, but it is an indication how effective juniper can be for a variety of issues.
Myrrh Essential Oil
Myrrh is in hope essential oil as well. Every time I think of myrrh, I think of open skin or owies. I specifically use myrrh on any open skin areas that may have been distressed from a fall or accident. Myrrh works incredibly well to help damaged skin; however, it also has some incredible emotional benefits which is why it is in hope. Myrrh has one of the highest levels of sesquiterpenes. Sesquiterpenes are compounds in essential oils that can directly affect the hypothalamus, hippocampus, and amygdala of the brain. The amygdala is the part of the brain that handles our emotions. This oil or the hope essential oil blend can directly affect how you handle traumatic experiences that you may be holding onto from your past (Young & Lawrence, 2003, p. 128).
Diffusing essential oils or inhaling them directly from the bottle can positively impact the brain almost immediately. Studies at the University of Vienna have shown that the primary constituents in some essential oils can stimulate blood flow and activity to the emotional center of the brain. When feeling down for long periods of time, it is suggested to continuously, throughout the day, be using uplifting oils such as hope, lemon, or frankincense, applied directly to your ear lobes, chest, in diffuser jewelry, or in a diffuser if that is something you prefer (Young & Lawrence, 2003, p. 336).
Spruce Essential Oil
Spruce is the last oil in the hope essential oil blend. Spruce is the highest frequency oil created at 428 MHz. Megahertz frequencies are incredibly important to life. Essential oils have frequencies and according to Dr. David Stewart (2003), essential oils have the ability to elevate the body’s frequency to levels where disease can no longer exist (p. 33). All items have frequencies. For instance, canned food is dead so it has a frequency of zero whereas fresh herbs measure between 20-27 MHz and dried herbs between 12-22 MHz. Using pure, therapeutic grade essential oils in our cooking raises the frequency of our food. Basil essential oil has a frequency of 52 MHz, which is much higher than its dried counterpart. It is important to give our bodies life giving foods to improve our overall frequency (Stewart, 2003, p. 32-33).
This month’s promotions with a certain essential oil company have vitality oils that are perfect to get for free and begin introducing into your daily cooking. The health effects could be so beneficial for you and your family and what is even better, is a small amount goes a long way! So you could use them for months and months while increasing the frequencies in your food, making them healthier for you and your family.
When our body’s frequency is low, our emotions can be down and low as well. Depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues can be a result of low frequency in the body. Being that spruce essential oil is an oil with the highest known frequency, it can have amazing health benefits to the body especially when feelings of intense sadness and racing thoughts occur. Using essential oils to increase our frequency is one way we can handle big emotions, and help to calm or uplift us, whatever the need may be.
The Impact of Words and Thoughts
Another thing that is incredibly important is our words and thoughts. Words and thoughts also have frequencies which affect our emotions. Negative thoughts lower essential oil frequency by about 12 MHz while positive thoughts can raise oil frequency by about 10 MHz. Prayer can raise your body’s frequency levels by 15 MHz. Using and applying essential oils with an attitude of prayer may increase their effectiveness while inviting the healing power of God, the ultimate Healer. Oftentimes when someone needs healing, prayer alone can work, but using oils and prayer can magnify the effects (Stewart, 2003, p. 33).
Using powerful language can also change our mindset and bring us from a state of intense sadness or the inability to shut off our racing thoughts to confidence and/or joy. It may feel silly at first, but saying phrases with confidence while applying oils is incredibly powerful. For instance, if we continuously say, “I’m nervous, I’m nervous, I’m nervous” over and over in our heads, we will be just that, nervous! However, even though we may feel nervous we can use a counteracting phrase that makes our emotions more positive. So if you have something coming up that is going to make you nervous try applying valor essential oil while saying, “I am so excited and confident.” Repeat a similar phrase like this over and over until your body begins to calm down and actually believe the words you are saying.
Another phrase people repeat often is, “I am so sad.” This is heard by your brain and body and gets programmed into your belief system. Instead, try applying hope essential oil to your chest and earlobes and say, “I am blessed to be so relaxed.” Again, continue repeating this until your brain and body believe it. If you are feeling tense about something, try a power pose such as placing your hands on your hips while looking into the mirror, and say with confidence, “I feel alert and inspired” while applying valor essential oil (adapted from Elmore, 2019).
This is why each week during my podcasts I have you apply an oil at the beginning and at the end, and we end with stating a positive affirmation for you to say throughout the week. The oil plus the positive affirmation (words and thoughts) result in increased frequencies in your body and better overall health for you!
When to take Action with your Big Emotions
With everything that is happening in the world, it is so important for us to recognize when we feel our minds going into an unhealthy spot emotionally. Over the last several months I have felt as if emotionally our world needs more help than we think. People are struggling with suicidal thoughts at unprecedented levels. Children are struggling because of isolation. Others are depressed because of job loss, social interactions, or worry of what is to come. If this describes you, please turn off your television and/or social media. Recognize when you are starting to feel agitated by the information and either leave the conversation, or turn off the source (if possible). When our nervous systems get hijacked by too much crazy information, our amygdala goes into safety mode and flight or fight kicks in and we become numb. This is when we need to apply our nervous system oils such as hope; valor; vetiver; peace and calming; lavender; stress away; or frankincense to our spine, bottoms of our feet, or diffuse (B. Schmidt, personal communication, July 6, 2020). There are many other oils that can help during this time, and you may have to find what works for you through trial and error. Remember to use your power poses, prayer, and positive words and thoughts as you apply your oils to raise your body’s frequency even more.
Supplements Can Also Help
There are several supplements that can help in times when emotions are all over the place because of the direct relationship between gut and brain health. I will not go into great detail in this podcast about supplements, but please make sure you are replenishing healthy gut bacteria in your system with a good quality probiotic. Also, significant research shows that quality B vitamins, like Super B from Young Living, can help calm racing thoughts and elevate mood.
Please remember, through all of this craziness, Christ is our hope, strength, and solid firm foundation. Psalm 71:5 says, “For you O Lord, are my hope, my trust, O Lord, from my youth.” And Psalm 119:114 says “You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in your word.” While applying your hope essential oil again, say our positive affirmation of the week, “My hope is in you O Lord.” Repeat this several times throughout each day while applying an oil we talked about today to help ease your mind from all that is happening in the world that seems out of our control.
