Welcome
Hello Friends.
Thanks for tuning in to Twelve Minute Health Bits. This is your host, Christen Hull, providing health and wellness support for the 21st century. We will be talking about using simple methods from today and centuries ago to keep our bodies healthy. Our goal is to daily stay “Above the Wellness Line.” In this podcast I will be giving you tips and tricks on how to daily make small changes to your life in order to keep your body well.
Episode 16 - Raindrop Oils
Have you heard of the Raindrop Technique created by Gary Young? It is honestly one of the most amazing wellness tools I have tried. Basically a massage therapist (or friend, as you do not need to be licensed to give a raindrop massage) applies a series of oils on the spine of someone’s back in a specific pattern to help support their immune system and clean up any back issues. This is great when someone is fighting something off that is dragging down their immune system and for helping to bring one’s spine back into alignment so it remains healthy and strong. People with spinal issues that are life altering have seen amazing benefits from this type of massage (Young & Lawrence, 2003, pg 207-230).
Before we dive into this technique and the individual oils used, please grab peppermint essential oil, put 2 drops on the palm of your hand, rub your hands together, and breathe deeply three to four long, slow breaths. If you do not have peppermint, try running lemon essential oil through your diffuser, both of these will help you focus your attention.
Personal Testimonies
I have suffered from pretty significant back spasms since I was in my early 20s. At the time of flare up, I could not bend down and reach my shoes to tie my laces. These flare ups could last a long time. It would be months of chiropractic work, massages, and possible muscle relaxing drugs that made me feel horrible. Now, I am doing so many things to prevent these flare ups such as exercise and taking mineral essence and sulfurzyme. But when they do occur, my husband does the raindrop oils on my back and I am literally better by morning. #mystory
My son, who is seven, suffered a pretty severe blow to his brain in a sledding accident. He had all the symptoms of a concussion including fever, vomiting, lethargy, and our chiropractic doctor confirmed it was a concussion. The back of his helmet broke and almost completely split apart in the accident. I am incredibly grateful he was wearing a helmet. After the accident, I started doing raindrops on him daily. We would do a massage every single day. He recovered from the concussion very quickly with no side effects to date. #mystory
Just last night my eight year old daughter felt a little run down. She had a little runny nose and sore throat. I gave her an Inner Defense and MightyPro probiotic. I then had her lay on the couch and I gave her a raindrop massage. She woke up this morning with no sore throat, and with just a tiny runny nose. She had been at camp all week and had eaten food that her body was not incredibly used to, and swam two times a day every day. Her activity level was so different than normal, so I am sure her body was fighting off something small. I am so grateful for my tools to help her feel better quickly. I will repeat that again tonight, and my guess is she will be totally fine by the next morning.
Clearing out the Spine
Raindrop Technique helps bring energy systems of the body into balance, cleared, and realigned. It also helps to alleviate anything hibernating along the spine that may be causing harm to our immune system, spinal cord, or the rest of our body. Microorganisms that can cause harm to our body sometimes collect along the spine. This is why this technique is so important. Each of the oils used has a purpose and is specifically used to combat negative health issues (Higley & Higley, 2018, p. 22-28).
Materials and Setup for a Raindrop Massage
You will need:
Comfortable spot for the receiver to lay where you can walk around all sides of him/her (ideally a massage table would work; however, that is not always a reality. I typically use the bed or the floor).
Covering for the receiver’s legs to keep him/her warm from the waist down (preferably a blanket, towel, or sheet).
V6 Carrier Oil (almond or coconut oil works also).
Ortho Ease Massage Oil.
Flat surface to place oil bottles.
Each of the 10 oils listed in the Raindrop Series (Oregano, Thyme, Basil, Cypress, Wintergreen, Marjoram, Aroma Siez, Peppermint, and Valor. White Angelica can also be helpful, though it is not included in the kit).
Pro Tip: I keep all of my raindrop oils in a box with a bottle of V6 carrier oil so I do not have to gather them each time I need to administer the massage.
Before beginning the Raindrop Technique all jewelry should be removed and clothing should be loose and comfortable for both the receiver and facilitator so he/she can move freely around the receiver. The recipient should begin lying face up to begin and be able to easily transition to laying on his/her stomach. After the massage is completed, the receiver should not shower for 24 hours, so I always have the receiver bathe just before receiving the massage. The oils will continue to work in the body for an entire week.
If you purchase the Raindrop Kit from Young Living you will have everything set and ready to go for you along with a handy chart that shows you how to apply each of the oils.

Kids and Raindrop Massage
My kids love receiving raindrop massages from me. I do not take 45-60 minutes each time with them, and if they are feeling well, I only do it when they ask for it. My son has constant congestion that we are working on. The more often I administer the raindrop oils to him, the better it seems he is able to combat the feeling of being unable to breathe because his nose is stuffed.
If a child (or my husband) is fighting off something that is bogging down their immune system and causing them to not operate at 100%, I administer the raindrop oils more often. I have even administered them daily in severe cases when I know the person is fighting something extra tough.
Raindrop Roller on the Go
Sometimes it is impossible to get a full raindrop massage worked into the schedule. In these cases, it is beneficial to make a raindrop roller bottle. I actually keep a raindrop roller bottle with me in the summer months to help clear my nasal passages when the air gets heavy.
Raindrop Roller Bottle:
10 ml roller bottle (purchased from etsy)
25 drops Valor
10 drops Oregano
10 drops Thyme
10 drops Basil
10 drops Cypress
10 drops Wintergreen
10 drops Marjoram
10 drops Aroma Siez
10 drops Peppermint
V6 carrier oil to fill (use this for people with sensitive skin)
Ortho Ease Massage Oil (use this for those needing more potency and do not wish to dilute with carrier oil - filling with this might make it hot to tender skin so do not use this if you are using on children)
Technique Customization
One of the things I like the best about the Raindrop Technique is you can customize it to what the receiver needs. If you have someone who is having a rough time emotionally instead of their immune system being compromised, I would use the oils in the Feelings Kit and follow the same steps. Oils in the Feelings Kit include: Harmony, Forgiveness, Inner Child, Present Time, Release, and Valor. These oils may release any emotional issues the receiver may be experiencing and help move past them. The receiver should have someone they trust nearby to verbally process any emotional issues they may be experiencing after the massage is administered.
Encouragement
I would highly encourage you, if you have not yet, to administer the raindrop massage to a friend or family member, and then have them do the same to you. Honestly, I absolutely love what this technique has done for my body. Our positive affirmation for the week is: My body is strong and can heal. Remember the scripture verse that states: “Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.” James 5:14-15
