Our goal is to daily stay “Above the Wellness Line.” In this podcast I will be giving you tips and tricks on how to daily make small changes to your life in order to keep your body well.

Episode 20 - Christen’s Top 5 Oils to Have on Hand

Picking my five top oils is incredibly difficult for me to do. This is because every day my needs are fluid; therefore, I prefer a different set of oils than what I maybe used the previous day. If you have been listening to my podcast for a while, you probably have figured out that I like to start with an oil. So this week, let’s grab Frankincense (which is my top oil and was my gateway to falling in love with oils), and put a couple of drops on the palm of your hand, rub your hands together, cup your hands over your mouth, and breathe in three long, slow deep breaths.

#1 Frankincense

When I first received my Young Living oils starter kit, I opened it up, could not handle the smell, and put it in the cupboard for three months. I honestly was not impressed and thought I had wasted so much money. Then something amazing happened. It was about a year after I had my son. My skin was going crazy because of the pregnancy/breastfeeding hormones and I had these horrible brown spots above my upper lip. I decided maybe, after letting my oils sit for three months, I should probably see if these little oil bottles were bogus or the real deal. I did a quick google search, and found I should try frankincense on the brown spots. I really had no idea what I was doing, so I decided to try it. I applied the frankincense, even though I was not quite sure about the smell, two to three times a day and my brown spots were gone within three days. I was absolutely astounded and loved the way my skin felt. After using frankincense for a couple of days consistently my body started to really like the smell and actually craved it.

This is the beginning of my love for frankincense and brings me to my absolute favorite oil. Seriously, if you have not yet fallen in love with frankincense you should probably find a good use for it. It is really not hard to find a use for frankincense because there are over 1,000 uses. My favorite is on the brain stem of my children to help ground, focus, and keep them concentrated on their schoolwork.

My son had a wart on his finger and typically I would use oregano for this, but oregano is a hot oil and I did not want him to accidentally rub it in his eye, so instead I tried frankincense. We applied frankincense two times a day for three days and the wart was gone. #mystory

#2 DiGize Blend

My next top oil is DiGize. DiGize is a blend made up of tarragon, ginger, peppermint, juniper, fennel, lemongrass, anise, and patchouli. Too much information warning, I will be talking about poo because I am talking about DiGize essential oil which is great for the digestive system. Before I began my natural health journey, I thought it was normal to have a bowel movement only every two to three days. As I learned more, I found out that eliminating that infrequently leads to toxins and chemicals building up in your system, staying there, and leaching back into your body. As I changed my diet, added in supplements to help, and started drinking more water, I began to eliminate more frequently. However, it still was not as regular as I wanted it to be so I started adding in capsules of DiGize vitality. DiGize is an oil blend that supports healthy digestion and the elimination of toxins. This was absolutely pivotal in my health journey. Toxins can build up in the colon and if they are not eliminated properly they leach back into our system causing harm.

For some people, simply applying DiGize to their stomach and rubbing it in clockwise is incredibly helpful for any discomfort after eating or upset.

Many people use DiGize if they have acid come back up their esophagus after eating. They fill a vegetable capsule with DiGize and lemon essential and take before they eat. This seems to provide great relief to quite a few people.

#3 Valor Blend

My third favorite oil blend is valor. Valor is one I use multiple times a day. I rub it around my ears, on the bottoms of my feet, my spine, and on my wrists. It is emotionally grounding, relaxing for muscles and nerves and helps to open up ear canal passages. I see my chiropractor about once a month and use valor before and after my appointment because it helps the adjustment last longer. #mystory

Valor is a blend formulated with black spruce, camphor wood, geranium, blue tansy, and frankincense. Valor is great diffused, rolled on wrists before a big presentation for an extra boost of confidence and courage, or applied to the spine or bottoms of the feet before and after a chiropractic adjustment. It can also be used on the bottoms of the feet (especially the big toes) to ensure sleep is quiet and restful. Valor is uplifting for when your mood is feeling down or if you need to calm the crazies.

#4 Longevity Blend

My number four favorite oil blend, as of right now, is longevity. Both my husband and I take longevity vitality in a capsule daily with copaiba. Longevity is formulated with thyme, clove, frankincense and orange essential oils. The oils in longevity help support: healthy brain function, the immune system, skin from the inside out, and staying younger looking for longer. For me, I noticed my face seemed to have a facelift after taking longevity for a full 30 days. The difference was absolutely astounding. I did not take a before and after picture, but really wish I would have. This is not a blend I would diffuse as it really does not smell very good with the thyme essential oil in it.

#5 Thieves Blend

The fifth oil blend that I choose not to live without is thieves. I absolutely love this blend diffused while sleeping. I wake up feeling much clearer as my sinuses love it. Thieves is a blend of cinnamon bark, clove, eucalyptus radiata, lemon, and rosemary. I take this blend with me wherever I go as a spray. If I go into a public restroom, I spray my hands when I am done, the door handles, and sometimes even the toilet before I use it. To make a spray with this blend I take a 2 ounce spray bottle and add 15 drops of thieves essential oil, 1 small squirt of witch hazel, and fill with water. It really is great having this to clear the air in your car, hotel room, or other places where the air seems stuffy or several synthetic sprays or fresheners are used.

Oils in Every Part of our Day

Oils are embedded in our daily lives. I carry them with me wherever we go, my first aid kit, my purse, my pocket, and some just live in the car. I love having them at my fingertips when I need them. I feel empowered as a wife and mother to have the tools I need to help my husband and children when something comes up.

I honestly had a hard time picking five oils, and as you can see, four that I chose are blends with multiple oils in one bottle!  And frankincense is in two of those blends, and is still my number one! I can never get enough frankincense!  However, as my daily needs change, some days I prefer something different depending on how I am feeling. I hope this episode gave you a few new uses to some very popular oils. My friends, the more you use oils, eat healthy, take supplements, and move your body, the more you are going to find success with helping your body feel consistently better. As I conclude this episode I want to leave you with this verse: “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones” Proverbs 17:22. Our positive affirmation for the week is: “I will consistently give my body what it needs to be healthy and vibrant.”
