Welcome

Hello Friends.

Thanks for tuning in to Twelve Minute Health Bits. This is your host, Christen Hull, providing health and wellness support for the 21st century. We will be talking about using simple methods from today and centuries ago to keep our bodies healthy. Our goal is to daily stay “Above the Wellness Line.” In this podcast I will be giving you tips and tricks on how to daily make small changes to your life in order to keep your body well.

Episode 29 - Christen’s Five Favorite Supplements

Have you heard of orthomolecular medicine? If not, I highly suggest you look it up. It is absolutely fascinating and can honestly help support people suffering from some pretty significant conditions. Orthomolecular medicine is defined by Webster’s dictionary as “a theory according to which disease may be cured by providing the optimum amounts of substances (such as vitamins) normally present in the body” (Merriam-Webster, n.d.). Yes, these vitamins and supplements are present in the body already, but not in the amounts needed to fight things off when the body is taxed and burdened.

Vitamin and Mineral Deficiency

I will be going more into orthomolecular medicine in another episode, but today I want to chat with you about my favorite supplements. I started out the episode with a definition of orthomolecular medicine because it is the exact reason why I do not believe that we can live on diet alone! Almost every single issue or ailment we are struggling with as a society can be traced back to some sort of vitamin or mineral deficiency.

Check out some of these Quotes around the Issue:

  • “You can trace every sickness, every disease, and every ailment to a mineral deficiency.”

     - Dr. Linus Pauling

  • “Without minerals, nothing else works. Amino acids and enzymes no longer work. Vitamins and other nutrients don’t get broken down and absorbed properly. This causes major deficiencies in both vitamins and minerals. The end result is a chain reaction of poor health where nothing works as it should… Supplementation, therefore, not only seems advisable, it is advisable!” - The Root of All Disease by E. G. Neinrich (“Mineral deficiency is the basic cause of all disease!”, 2014).

Grab your common sense essential oil for today’s episode and either place 5-10 drops in your diffuser, or 2 drops on the palm of your hand, rub your palms together, and breathe in deeply three to four deep breaths. Common sense is an oil that helps to open your mind up to hear new information and to be open to that information. If you do not have common sense essential oil, grab frankincense instead.

#1 Mineral Essence

Mineral essence is the supplement that I chose as my absolute favorite. Simply because the essence of life is minerals. Simply put, our water and food supply is not even close to what it was years ago, and we need to be supplementing with minerals in order for our body to function at its optimal level. This supplement absolutely tastes disgusting, I will not sugar coat it for you, but totally worth putting up with it to see the health benefits. Mineral essence is formulated with royal jelly which is an immune system support, helps support digestive function, blood sugar levels, and there is also a study showing that royal jelly may help inhibit the growth of breast cancer cells (Nakaya et al., 2007).

The magnesium in mineral essence (as well as the other minerals in it) are naturally-occurring, not isolated minerals. The natural form along with corresponding ratios of other minerals and the synergy from the essential oils are why it is the most effective magnesium supplement around. The minerals are incredibly bioavailable, making your body able to ingest them quickly and easily ensuring they go completely to your cells.

#2 NingXia Red

Hitting number two on my list of favorite supplements is NingXia Red. NingXia Red is a powerful whole foods drink made with the wolfberry, other high antioxidant fruits, and infused with essential oils. NingXia Red tastes absolutely amazing!

The NingXia wolfberry has been used for longevity and good health for many years. When biochemists analyzed this specific type of goji berry, they found that it was essentially a vitamin capsule in the form of a fruit. Over 15% protein by weight, this wolfberry contains over 21 essential minerals, 18 amino acids, and substantial amounts of many vitamins and minerals. But even more special is the antioxidant status of it. In October 2000, this NingXia wolfberry was sent to Brunswick Laboratories in Massachusetts to assess its antioxidant Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) assay. The results astonished them. NingXia wolfberries have five times the antioxidant power of prunes, 10 times the power of oranges, 12 times the power of raisins, and 55 times the power of cauliflower. In fact, it had the highest ORAC score of any whole food ever tested!

Antioxidants protect the body from free radical damage that leads to cellular aging and health issues. Antioxidants extend cell life and help keep new cells that the body is always making healthy, good cells. NingXia Red takes these amazing wolfberries and delivers them into a delicious, powerful liquid nutritional supplement made with NingXia wolfberry purée. Drinking just a couple ounces a day has been amazing for our immune health, energy, eye health, and overall health!

#3 Sulfurzyme

Sulfurzyme is naturally my third favorite supplement because I mix my sulfurzyme powder directly into my NingXia Red every day! I just love the flavor, and the health benefits are astounding! Sulfurzyme is a powder (or capsule) Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) supplement formulated with the NingXia wolfberry.

MSM has some specific functions in the body, so how exactly is that effective at helping with pain? It inhibits pain impulses along nerve fibers, reduces inflammation, increases blood supply, reduces muscle spasms, and can help reduce scar tissue. For people taking over the counter pain medications, this may result in long term liver damage and can block the enzymes that produce components of cartilage which could lead to arthritis symptoms later on in life. MSM is a supplement that can give people that relief without the side effects. It may take some time for the MSM to build up in your system and get your body back to equilibrium, so please be patient as your body uses the supplement to work (Butawan, Benjamin, & Bloomer, 2017)!

Along with the benefits listed above, MSM can also help improve allergy symptoms, inflammation in the body, reduce oxidative stress, improve skin quality and texture, reduce muscle soreness, increase range of motion and physical function, and may also help preserve cartilage (Butawan, Benjamin, & Bloomer, 2017)

#4 Inner Defense

Number four, of my five favorite supplements is Inner Defense. Inner defense is a capsule supplement formulated with clove, lemon, eucalyptus radiata, rosemary, cinnamon, oregano, thyme, and lemongrass. This is my go-to supplement as soon as I start to feel that little tickle in the back of my throat or if I know I was around someone that may be carrying something unpleasant. Inner defense was incredibly helpful for me when I caught the flu bug last year. As soon as I felt something fishy in my stomach, I started taking four per day, at four different times, with food. The bug only lasted a couple of hours, and then I felt better. Some others that I had been around who had the same issue were down and out with this bug for a good one to two weeks. Check out the study by Gilling, Kitajima, Torrey, & Bright (2014) on the benefits of oregano essential oil.

#5 Immupro

My fifth favorite supplement is Immupro. Immurpo is a chewable capsule with medicinal mushrooms and wolfberry polysaccharide as well which have been documented to do amazing things for the body. Please do some research on the reishi mushroom and cancer (Cör, Knez, & Knez HrnÄŤiÄŤ, 2018).

Immupro also contains melatonin which can be incredible for sleep and gut health, and zinc. Zinc is a mineral that is super beneficial during cold and flu season, and to help seal up the gut lining as well.

All of Young Living’s supplements have been researched and really are safe, effective, and the best part is they do not contain any sneaky ingredients. For instance, a member messaged me the other day to see if her vitamin D supplement was a good one. I asked her to send me a picture of the back of the label that said, “other ingredients.” I was absolutely appalled. This supplement contained Crospovidone which is basically a formaldehyde. This can collect in the lungs and actually poison you over time. Why would you go through the trouble of taking a supplement to support your health that contained a poison that will inhibit your health in the long run? Please check the ingredients, my friends!

Well, there you have it! My five favorite Young Living supplements. I do not necessarily take all of these on a daily basis, I just make sure they are all on hand in case something happens that needs attention immediately. I do take NingXia Red, sulfurzyme, and mineral essence on a daily basis and am very pleased with the support they give to my body. Say the positive affirmation of the week with me: “We have the tools we need to stay healthy.”
